NPA field commander yields in Zamboanga del Norte

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 21): NPA field commander yields in Zamboanga del Norte

A field commander of the New People’s Army (NPA) has surrendered to the police of Zamboanga del Norte, an official reported Thursday.

Senior Supt. James Mejia, Zamboanga del Norte police director, identified the surrenderee as Paterno Cantutay, Jr. alias "Ram" and "Jolie," 35, a resident of Barangay Lapangan, Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental.

Mejia said Cantutay surrendered to the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) under his command.

Cantutay is a squad leader of the NPA’s Samahang Yunit Pangpropaganda (SYP) Front ’89, which is based in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Mejia said.

Cantutay decided to surrender to clear his name and avail the government’s Balik Masa Program, he said.
