CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City -- Government troopers rescued a wounded poultry owner ambushed by members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Misamis Oriental Sunday morning, a military officer said Monday.

Lt. Col. Eugenion Julio Osias IV, spokesperson of the army’s Fourth Infantry Division here, said that Virgilio Legaspi, a poultry owner, known as “Tatay Beloy,” survived the slay try with a gunshot wound on his stomach.

Osias said that army troopers from the 58th IB went to the rescue and engaged the rebels in a short firefight prompting the rebels to withdraw.

He said government troopers provided Legaspi first aid using the troopers’ medical items from the Combat Life Saver kit before he was transported to a hospital in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental for proper medical treatment where he was later declared out of danger.

Legaspi, together with his stepdaughter, was on his way to his poultry farm in Sitio Sidlakan, Brgy Bangbang, Medina, Misamis Oriental Sunday morning when fired upon by the communist rebels, Osias said.
