The Sangguniang Bayan of San Isidro in a special session last Saturday, Nov. 24, declared the three-conflict affected barangays of Pinamuno, Datu Balong and Monte Dujali under a state of calamity. The declaration allows the municipal government to use part of the calamity fund to augment relief operation to assist the 480 affected families reported by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) XI. OCD XI Situation report signed by OCD Regional Director Liza Mazo showed that 265 families were displaced in Barangay Pinamuno; 67 in Datu Balong; and 148 in Monte Dujali. However, majority of the affected families have already gone home. The displacement of families in the three affected barangays came about when forces of the 60th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) clashed in an armed encounter at about 12:30 noon on November 22 at sitio Mamaon of Barangay Pinamuno, stretching the clash to sitio Mamalian in Barangay Datu Balong and to Purok Sentro in Barangay Monte Dujali. The PDRRMC, OCD XI report said that 300 NPA members were spotted in Barangay Monte Dujali conducting checkpoints and pulong-pulong with residents prior to the encounter. The provincial government of Davao del Norte through the PDRRMC and the MDRRMC of San Isidro assisted in evacuating affected families who temporarily fled their homes while the provincial and municipal social welfare and development offices provided food relief assistance to evacuees.....
