One NPA was killed during the clash with government troops in Lanuza, Surigao Sur

Carmen, Surigao del Sur- Operating troops of the 36th Infantry ''VALOR" Battalion, Philippine Army encountered more or less eight members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) believed to be the composite squad coming from the members of Pltn 1, WGF 30, NEMRC led by Bernabe Limbaga Pamad @Depor and SYP16 C led by Ruel T Neniel @Jacob at the vicinity of Sitio Libas, Brgy Sibahay, Lanuza, SDS at 10:00 o’clock in the evening, July 08, 2023.

The residents of Sitio Libas, Brgy Sibahay reported the presence of the said armed group in their community. Subsequently, the troops immediately responded and conducted a clearing operation. A firefight occurred between the government forces and the CTG for about five (5) minutes that resulted in one (1) CTG member killed and the capture of one (1) Carbine, 5.56mm: AR15, five (5) steel magazines of AR15 with ninety-seven (97) rounds 5.56mm live ammunition, and one (1) bandolier.

Lt Col. Vincent M Viray, Commanding Officer of 36IB, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased member of the communist terrorist group (CTG). He stated that he has instructed the ground commander to retrieve the body, treat it with respect and dignity, and deliver it to the family once the identity has been confirmed. He does not wish for further loss of life among the CTG members.

Lt Col. Viray believes that it is necessary to continue conducting combat operations for the remaining CTG members to consider surrendering. The 36IB, along with local government units (LGUs) and partner agencies, aims to provide support and assistance to these individuals, offering them a better life by reintegrating them into the mainstream of society.
