CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur-A member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) was killed in a brief gunfight against government troops at around 2:50 in the afternoon in Barangay Calumpang, Placer town in Masbate province, Friday, July 24.

Joint elements of 2nd Infantry Battalion (2IB) and PNP were conducting hot pursuit operations, following the recovery of explosives in the nearby Barangay of Dangpanan, when the clash broke out.

Firefight lasted for five minutes killing one communist NPA terrorist (CNT) who is yet to be identified.

No one was harmed in the government side.

Recovered in the encounter site was one M16 rifle.

Earlier, four anti-personnel mines, 100-meter electrical wire, medical supplies, solar panel, one motorized banca, hammock and propaganda materials were seized by operating troops in a separate operations. They responded to a report made by some residents about the presence of CTG members in the area.

It is believed that CTG members left the war materials while fleeing from government troops.

“Despite our on-going fight against our unseen enemy, the COVID-19 virus, your Army in Bicol sees to it that we are determined to end the local communist armed conflict in the region. Successive recoveries of CTG’s firearms and other materials are clear proof that even a pandemic cannot distract us, as we press on our operational goal towards the extinction of insurgency here in Bicol,” MGEN HENRY A ROBINSON JR PA, Commander of Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) underscored.

JTFB also expressed its disappointment with the CTG’s continuous attempts to disrupt the peace and economic stability in the region while the Bicolanos are still struggling with the impact of COVID-19.

“This pandemic has taught us the value of life. Thus, we should not take it for granted. Nananawagan po kaming muli sa mga myembro ng CTG na magbalik-loob na sa pamahalaan. Invest your lives for the good of your families. Do not waste your lives by joining hopeless armed movement,” MGen. Robinson added.
