CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – An alleged New People’s Army cadre was killed in a five-minute gun battle between government troops and Communist guerillas in Bulalacao town last Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Colonel Connie Salas, police community relations chief of Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (PPO) said
the slain NPA member was identified only as “Ka Sander”, a member of the NPA’s Kilusang Larangang Gerilya operating in Mindoro island.

Ka Sander was killed after a team from the Fourth Infantry Batallion swooped down on an encampment in a hilly area in Sitio Lupgis, Barangay Cambunang, Bulalacao in southern Mindoro at about 5:30 p.m. and engaged at least 10 NPAs in a gunfight.

The Army troopers, led by Captain Ruben L. Gadut, recovered from the slain NPA a hand grenade, a 38 caliber revolver, two cellular phones, stethoscope, medicines, extortion letters, and subversive documents.
