MACO, Davao De Oro – – An unidentified female member of the New People’s Army was killed during an encounter with the government troops on Sunday, January 26, in Loreto, Agusan del Sur.
The encounter was caused the focused military operations launched by the 1001st Infantry Brigade after receiving information from the community of the presence of NPA in their area.
According to the progress report, the encounter took place at around 4:30AM at the boundary of the towns of Lapaz and Loreto, both of Agusan del Sur, involving the troops of 60th Infantry Battalion,and an undetermined number of NPAs believed to be members of Weakened Guerilla Front (WGF) 3, PulangBagani Company (PBC) 4, Sub Regional Committee (SRC) 4 and Headquarters, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
After the firefight, the government soldiers recovered the cadaver of the the female NPA member, who was abandoned by her comrades who flew to different directions.
Also obtained during the encounter were one AK47 rifle, five kilograms anti-personnel Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two improvised hand grenades, two handheld commercial radios, one damaged M16 rifle, two M203 live ammunition, more or less 50,000 pesos, assorted medical supplies, five sacks of rice, two flashlights, one wet battery cell, a solar panel and personal belongings.
As of now, the troops are still pursuing the NPA members.
Colonel John V Oberio, commander of the Army’s 1001st brigade urged the NPA members to come down and return to the folds of the law.
“You will suffer the same fate with your comrades if you insist to fight. We do not endeavor to collect dead bodies as this armed struggle is an exercise of futility. Now is the right time to surrender and avail the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government.”
He added that the government under President Rodrigo RoaDuterte is doing its very best to provide the basic services that all Filipino people deserve.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Randolph Plaza of Loreto lauded that operations of the army as it will drive away enemies of the state that will hinder the entry of investors, and eventually, disrupt the development of the town
