An alleged political instructor and organizer of the Communist-New People’s Army (NPA) was captured after a gun battle with government security forces and terrorists in Southern Mindanao, military report said.
In a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin on Monday, Second Lt. Kim S. Carlos, Civil Military Operation (CMO) officer of the Army 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion (71st IB), said the capture of the CPP-NPA political instructor and organizer came about after an information from a concerned villager revealed the presence of five NPA rebels at Purok 5, Barangay Anibongan, in Maco town, Davao de Oro (former Compostela Valley) province on Monday.
Identified only as “Ka Madame”, the 48-year-old amazon served as a political instructor / organizer of the Sub section Committee Cluster C-4 of Weakened Guerilla Front 2 (WGF 2) of the CPP-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC), Carlos said.
“Sensing danger, the rebels fired upon the approaching troops which resulted to an armed engagement,” the 71st IB CMO officer said.
“The troops had the upper hand during the clash causing the group of rebels to scamper to different directions. However the troops continued to pursue the rebels and cornered “Ka Madame” that resulted to her capture,” Carlos said.
The four other suspected rebels managed to escape, the statement said.
Recovered from her were a caliber-.38 revolver, a black backpack containing an improvised explosive device (IED), empty shells of caliber .45 and subversive documents and other personal belongings, the 71st CMO officer said.
The captured CPP-NPA political officer has been organizing underground mass organization and “milisya ng bayan” and further served as instructor of militant organization, including militant youth, teaching discipline and NPA doctrine in some areas in southern part of Davao de Oro since 2012, it said.
Maco MPS told the 71st IB that “Ka Madame” has an existing warrant of arrest on criminal case no 636-2018 for frustrate murder last Oct 10, 2018 issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 57 Mabini, Davao de Oro, 2nd Lt. Carlos added.
Meanwhile, 71st IB commander Lt. Col. Sonny E. Gonzales, on Monday was thankful for the cooperation of the local populace who provided the battalion real-time information that led to her capture.
“The EO 70 that calls for a whole of nation approach where all government agencies, local government units and private entities or individuals are involved in ending local armed conflict is indeed effective,” the 71st IB commander said, adding “We will continue to support local task forces ELCAC and its Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) down to municipal or barangay levels”.
In the same statement Monday, Gonzales vowed to prevent the rebels on their recovery efforts to its mass base and will continue to hit them hard as much as it welcomes and assists those rebels who voluntarily surrender and return to the folds of the law and live a normal and peaceful life.
