From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 27, 2020): 'Bakeshop for Peace' to improve livelihood of IP women in MisOr (By 58th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army)

CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- The construction of a 'Bakeshop for Peace' here is seen to give IP women a boost in terms of their livelihood while helping shape more peaceful communities.

The said bakeshop building worth Php168,387 was granted to the Minalwang Indigenous People Bakers Association (MIPBA) of Barangay Minalwang, this municipality, on January 21, 2020 to sustain their financial needs and help them become resilient.

The construction was facilitated by the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Minalwang and the tribal community in coordination with the 58th Infantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army.

The bakeshop project was the result of the Community Support Program (CSP) of the Philippine Army where they immersed in the barangay and help the government bridge the gap in the delivery of services to the community.

Eddieliza Cagat-cagat, president of the cooperative said, ‘’I am forever grateful for this opportunity because I will able to help my husband in meeting our family’s financial needs. I am also willing to share what I have learned as it would be my greatest honor to contribute something in the development of our society.”

On the other hand, Lt. Col. Roy Anthony O. Derilo, commanding officer of 58IB said, “I am happy that the IP community of Brgy Minalwang seeks to develop their lives by taking this livelihood and entrepreneurship. They want to show that New Peoples Army was just full of empty promises and lies to organize their community but it is our government that will help the community and bring them peace and development which they have long sought to enjoy."

The project, which is set to be completed on the second week of February, was also made possible through the cooperation of various stakeholders from Ulticon Builders Incorporated (UBI), Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Global Mindanao Polytechnic Institute (GMPI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR), Local Government Unit (LGU) - Claveria, and Minalwang Hindangon Tribal Cooperative (MIHITRICO).
