A supporter and a courier of the Dawlah Islamiya, formerly known as the Maute group, have surrendered to military authorities in Lanao del Sur, military officials said Monday.

The surrender of the two came two days after a Dawlah Islamiya member was killed in a firefight
Friday in the boundaries of Piagapo and Balindong, Lanao del Sur, said Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion commander.

Altre identified the two surrenderers as Farhan Salik, alias Orak, 20, and Alimoden Maunada, 38,
who also turned over a .30-caliber M1 Springfield Garand rifle when they gave themselves up around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Gacap, Piagapo, Lanao de Sur.

Altre said their surrender was facilitated by Salic Dimasangkay, a commander of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and Usman Amboloto, the barangay chairperson of Dado, Balindong town.

Salik and Maunada were placed under custodial debriefing, he added.

Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, said they continuously encourage the remnants and supporters of the Dawlah Islamiya to surrender and live a peaceful life.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, thanked the local government units and MILF forces for their "continued trust and support" to the troops in contributing peace and development in the province of Lanao del Sur.

Ponio said the 1st Infantry Division remains steadfast in its commitment to attaining peace “in our area of operation through our campaign against local terrorist groups, lawless armed groups, and loose firearms.”

On Friday, Dawlah Islamiyah member identified as Jarir Usman, 28, was killed in a clash with troops of the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion in the boundaries of Balindong and Piagapo.

The clash broke out when the troops spotted a group of Dawlah Islamiya while patrolling the area.
