CGMTY, Mawab, Davao de Oro – The 10th Infantry (Agila) Division
Philippine Army has a new Commander via simple but solemn ceremony
held at Camp General Manuel T Yan Sr., Mawab, Davao de Oro on
Saturday January 25, 2020.

Major General Jose C Faustino Jr AFP relinquished his command of over
10000 strong Agila Troopers to Major General Reuben S Basiao AFP. The
ceremony was highlighted by the ceremonial turn-over of the command
symbol which signifies the formal transfer of authority and responsibility to
his successor.

Faustino served the 10th ID for 1 year, 1 month and 3 days who was
instrumental in numerous accomplishments not only in combat operations
but also in engaging various stakeholders in order to pave the way for a
peaceful and conflict resilient communities in Davao Region, parts of
Region 12 and parts of Region 10. His valiant and decisive leadership
inspired the troops to perform beyond expectations. He now leads the
Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), AFP in which 10ID is still
under his direct supervision.

Meanwhile, prior to his designation as the 10ID Commander, Major
General Reuben S Basiao was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence,

General Headquarters Armed Forces of the Philippines. He was also the
distinguished and respected former commander of the 701st Infantry
Brigade, Phi Army based in Mati, Davao Oriental which has operational
control of Davao Oriental, parts of Region 10 and Davao de Oro. During his
stint as Brigade Commander, he dismantled a Guerilla front of the New
Peoples Army (NPA). As a well-rounded officer, he conceptualized and
implemented the Community Support Program (CSP), which aims to
dismantle the organizational structure of the CPP-NPA-NDF. It also aims to
strengthen the Barangay-based institutions, organize and empower the
communities, making them resilient to conflict and any disasters of natural
occurrence.

His other significant assignments in the AFP includes being the
Commanding officer of 67IB and 72IB, 10ID, Philippines Defense and
Armed Forces Attaché (PHILDAFA) to the Kingdom of Thailand with
accreditation to Laos and Myanmar. He also served as the Chief of Staff,
Intelligence Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), Assistant
Division Chief of the International Affairs Division, Office of the Assistant
Chief of Staff for Plans, OJ5 in-charge of the ASEAN Affairs and the
Division Chief of the Intelligence Research and Analysis Division, OJ2. His
junior years were mostly spent in Mindanao units where he served as
Platoon Leader, Company Commander and as Commander of Military
Intelligence Group -12 (MIG 12) which has operational jurisdiction over
Regions 12 and ARMM.

He has a Masters Degree in Public Management, Major in Development
and Security and in International Development and Security both from the
Development Academy of the Philippines. He also earned his Masters of
Arts in International Relations from the International University of Japan,
Nigita, Japan.

He is a member of the PMA “Maringal” Class of 1988.
