Mawab, Davao de Oro–A certain EDNA REMEGIO TAN alias MADAME, 48, an NPA political instructor and organizer was captured in BrgyAnibongan, Maco, Davao de Oro, 9:00 o’clock of January 24, 2020. Recovered in her position were war materiel and subversive documents.
Troops of 71st Infantry KAIBIGAN Battalion (71 IB) together with some personnel of Maco Police responded to an information from a concerned citizen about the presence of 5 NPA rebels at Purok 5 of BrgyAnibongan, Maco Davao de Oro. Sensing danger, the rebels fired upon the approaching troops which resulted to an armed engagement. The troops got an upper hand during theclash causing the group of rebels scampered to different direction. Troops however continued to pursue the rebels and cornered alias Madame that resulted in her capture. Recovered from her possession were 1 cal .38 with 2 ammunitions; and a black backpackcontaining 1 improvised explosive device (IED), subversive documents and other personal belongings; and 3 empty shells of cal .45.
Edna Remegio Tan alias Madame served as a political instructor / organizer of the Sub section Committee Cluster C4 of Weakened Guerilla Front 2 (WGF 2) of the New People’s Army (NPA). During the interview, she revealed that she has been organizing underground mass organization and milsya ng bayan and further served as instructor of the NPA’s Pambansang Demokratikong Paaralan (PADEPA), teaching discipline and NPA doctrine in 10 barangays of Maco, Davao de Oro since 2012.
Moreover she organized rallies in Tagum and Davao City using the themes “Pahawaonang mgasundalosa Comval” and“Undangan ang pagpatay sa mga nilupigang Sibilyan” both in 2013; and “Ipagawasa ng gipangorakot nga NFA nga Bugas” in 2015.
Meanwhile, PNP Maco confirmed that she [Edna] has an existing warrant of arrest on criminal case no 636-2018 for frustrate murder issued last Oct 10, 2018 issued by the RTC Branch 57 Mabini, Davao de Oro.
On the other hand Lieutenant Colonel Sonny E Gonzales, Commanding Officer of 71IB was thankful for the cooperation of the local populace who provide the battalion real-time information that led to her capture. “The EO 70 that calls for a whole of nation approach where all government agencies, local government units and private entities or individuals are involved in ending local armed conflict is indeed effective,” he uttered. “We will continue to support local task forces ELCAC and its Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) down to municipal or barangay levels,” he added.
71st IB under the new leadership of LTC Gonzales vowed to prevent the rebels on their recovery efforts to its mass base and will continue to hit them hard as much as it welcomes and assists those rebels who voluntarily surrender and return to the folds of the law and live a normal and peaceful life.
