Galvez condemns death of 7 MILF fighters

From MindaNews (Oct 7, 2019): Galvez condemns death of 7 MILF fighters

KORONADAL CITY (MindaNews / 07 October) — Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez, Jr. condemned on Monday the Islamic State-inspired Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) for the death of seven Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) fighters in Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao on October 3.

“We will exert all efforts to make sure that justice will be served to the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” Galvez said in a statement.

The recent atrocity demonstrates the brutality of these terror groups, and the violent methods they will utilize to sow fear, anger and discord among the populace, he added.

“Their twisted ideology does not recognize ethnicity nor religion. They have no place in a humane, peaceful society,” Galvez stressed.

Galvez condoled with the families of the slain MILF members, who he said were killed during the attack carried out by the IS-affiliated Turaype-Dawla group.

Turaype is one of the three factions within the BIFF, the military said.

“The national government recognizes the gallantry of these former MILF combatants who stood their ground against the radical group. For us, they are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice so that their people can live in peace,” he said.

In solidarity with the leadership of the MILF, the government will assist in every way possible the families of these slain MILF fighters, Galvez said.

He urged the citizens to unite to address the roots of violent extremism, and bring enduring and long-lasting peace to the nation.

MILF chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, concurrently interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, has yet issue a statement on the matter.
