The army troopers caught Rey Christian Sabado Alias Nadz/Al (Chanchan), Anton Mañoso and Edwin Piczon, carrying firearms, explosives and subversive documents. This led to their apprehension and to the seizure of said war materials.
The subversive documents contain information that link NPA with the repressive organization like Katungod Sinirangan Bisayas-Karapatan. They also contain a list of business establishments as their source/target of extortion activities.
Initial report coming from the 20th IB said that Chanchan is a college student of PUP Sta. Mesa, Manila but he failed to get his degree as he was recruited by the Sandigan ng Mag-aaral Para sa Sambayanan (SAMASA) in PUP which makes him a full time NPA.
Per his own admission, Chanchan participated in the attack of Geparayan Detachment, Silvino Lubos, Northern Samar last March 2017. Chanchan was sent by the CPP from Manila to help in the propagation of White Area operations in Northern Samar.
Meanwhile, Anton Mañoso Alias Tito and Edwin Piczon Alias Bunay are both members of NPA’s Yunit Milisya from Hinagonoyan, Catubig, Northern Samar tasked to escort Chanchan on the way to Brgy. San Francisco, Las Navas, Northern Samar.
“We assure the family, relatives and the general public that Chanchan and his company who are now in the custody of PNP are being treated humanely in accordance with the rule of law,” Lt. Col. John Gullem, commanding officer of the 20th (We Lead) Infantry Battalion said.
BGen Ramil Bitong AFP, Commander of the 803rd Brigade said, “We enjoin the parents to monitor your sons/daughters; you’ll never know they are already deceived by the repressive organizations.”
Meanwhile, MGen Pio Dinoso called on the youth saying, “We enjoin our youth to be responsible citizens of the Republic. Don’t be deceived by the rotten communist ideology in order not to experience the same consequences incurred by Chanchan.”
He also called on the Kabataan, Karapatan and their allied organizations to stop lies and deception in the guise of propagating democratic rights.
“You’re putting the lives of your recruited youth in danger,” he stressed. “Lest we forget the CPP-NPA-NDF is using democracy to destroy democracy; join the government to destroy government.”
“The public should readily dismiss these social media postings of the terrorist-front organizations, as it is treacherously aimed at deceiving the populace and discrediting the government’s peace and development efforts,” he concluded. (PIA-8)
