The military conducted on Wednesday a security briefing for foreign diplomats, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Friday.

The briefing, presented by the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence at Camp Aguinaldo, focused on communist insurgency and the situation in Mindanao.

The military previously alleged that certain “fronts” of Communist Party of the Philippines posing as non-governmental organizations are getting financial assistance from the European Union and the Belgian Foreign Ministry.

The briefing was conducted on the sidelines of a golf event for ambassadors, charge d’affaires, and Foreign Armed Forces Attaches (FAFA) from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.

Lorenzana hosted the activity as part of its sports diplomacy initiative.

“Spending time leisurely, playing sports, getting to know people with similar interests, making friends and expanding our networks outside the confines of our respective workplaces are wonderful ways of spreading goodwill, promoting trust and building confidence which are imperative in order to carry out our duty of ensuring the peace, security and stability,” Lorenzana said.
