President Rodrigo Duterte said Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari is “willing to talk” peace when he comes back from his travel abroad.

“Areglo na tayo. Sabi ni Nur he’s willing to talk. He’s waiting for me to make a decisive decision when he comes back,” President Duterte told the general assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines on Tuesday night (February 26) citing his short conversation with the MNLF leader on Monday (February 25).

The Chief Executive said it is high time for the government to craft a new peace agreement with the MNLF and so he directed Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to help in creating a draft.

“Sabi ko it’s time to craft a new deal for the MNLF. Kailangan pa natin iyan. But they are revolutions driven with territorial intentions or objectives,” President Duterte said.

During the arraignment on Tuesday at Sandiganbayan, Misuari refused to enter a plea for the charges of graft and malversation filed against him in relation to the P77-million ‘ghost textbooks’ contracts entered into by his office when he was still governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

The court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and later on granted his request to travel overseas since he agreed to be arraigned.

Misuari argued that his presence at the conferences in Abu Dhabi, UEA and in Morocco are crucial to the peace process in Mindanao.

The court allowed him to leave on a travel bond amounting to
P920,000.
