The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) will hold a training workshop on violent extremism in this southern port city on Friday.

Faisal Abdulsalam, NCMF-9 Peace Building and Conflict Resolution Division chief, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that the workshop aims to develop a youth network that will help strengthen community resilience to address the spread of violent extremism in the Muslim community.

Abdulsalam said workshop participants include the Muslim youth sector, students, Madaris, academe, business sector, and non-government organizations (NGOs) from all over the region, as well as the Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi areas.

He said speakers from the different sectors and government agencies, including the security sector and the media, will discuss issues and concerns on violent extremism.

The workshop is made possible in partnership with the United Nations Development Program and the Japanese government. It is anchored on the theme “Strengthening National and Local Resilience to Risks of Violent Extremism in the Philippines.”
