From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (May 3): DEVELOPMENT | PH Gov’t to Improve Facilities in Pagasa

CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – A total of P1.6-B has been allocated by the government for the construction and repair of facilities within Pagasa Island.

According to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Pagasa Island will be improved with the building of a fishport, better shelter for soldiers, improved runway, and a marine research and tourist center.

This came about after the President and Armed Forces of the Philippines Commander-in-Chief Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the military to improve and further strengthen our islands in the disputed West Philippine Sea.

The move to push through with the project was despite the recent protest by China on the plan and the recent visit made by Sec Lorenzana and top AFP officials, led by Gen Eduardo Ano, in Pagasa.

President Duterte also argued that it is the “duty” of our country to develop and secure its own territory which we have occupied since 1970’s. AES
