DWDD: 16TH MAGLILINGKOD BATTALION II Welcomed by Provincial Government of Surigao Del Sur

Tandag City, Surigao del Sur (DWDD) – Hon. Johnny T. Pimentel, the Governor of this province welcomed the 16thInfantry (MAGLILINGKOD) Battalion as they arrived on board with a C130 Aircraft at Tandag City Airport today January 20, 2016 at about 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon.

The newly deployed Army Battalion was previously stationed in the province of Oriental Mindoro in Luzon before it was placed under operational control by the 402nd Infantry (STINGERS) Brigade which covers the whole province of Surigao del Sur as its Area of responsibility.



On his message, Governor Pimentel stated that the deployment of the 16thInfantry Battalion in Surigao del Sur was an answered prayer. He stressed that three (3) years ago the provincial Government have already been requesting for additional troops to make Surigao del Sur a peaceful province. “As they say, we cannot attain development without achieving peace. I hope that the deployment of 16th IB will greatly contribute to the stabilization of the peace and order in this province.” Gov. Pimentel said.

He also added that he is hoping that with the presence of the MAGLILINGKOD BATTALION, together, they will make the province of Surigao del Sur a peaceful province. He also assured the newly arrived troops of his full support to all their endeavors in the pursuit of peace and security development in his province.

On the other hand, COL ISIDRO L PURISIMA, the Commander of the 402nd Infantry (STINGERS) Brigade based in Surigao del Sur also welcomed the 16th Infantry Battalion. He reminded the newly arrived troops that it is imperative to respect the Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law and the Rule of Law in the performance of their duties. He also reiterated that their presence in the province is to protect and serve the people and the communities under the leadership of the Local Chief Executives”.

“Failure on our mission is not an option, we will not fail to do our mandate; we will not fail the people whom we have sworn to serve” Colonel Purisima said. CMO 16IB / MCAG
