PA to recommend declaration of Iloilo as a peaceful province

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 24): PA to recommend declaration of Iloilo as a peaceful province

Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division Commander Rey Leonardo Guerrero said that they will soon recommend the declaration of Iloilo as a peaceful province because of the decreased incidents of violence and situation in the countryside slowly normalized.

Guerrero, who was interviewed Tuesday, further that said that their recommendation for the declaration for the province of Iloilo, which is the last to be declared as such in Region 6, is also due to the dwindling forces of the New People’s Army (NPA) and the delivery of essential services particularly to the farflung areas.

” During the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting one of the topics to be discussed will be the declaration,” the army official contended.

He said that with the approval of Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. who chairs the PPOC a resolution to that effect hopefully could be passed.

He added that in fact they already planned last year to have such a declaration but because of the typhoon and due to other reasons that kept the provincial government busy that the plan was not carried out.
