Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen.
Gregorio Pio Catapang on Tuesday expressed his pleasure on the termination of
the Senate hearing on the Mamasapano incident where 44 Special Action Force
members were killed last Jan. 25.
The SAF men were killed following an encounter with Moro
Islamic Liberation Front and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters members
shortly after a successful effort to neutralize Malaysian terror bomber
Zulkipli bin Hir alias "Marwan".
"The Chief-of-Staff of the AFP, General Gregorio Pio P.
Catapang Jr, is very pleased that the Senate hearing has been terminated and
that the concluding statement of Senator Grace Poe, Chairperson of Senate
Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, announced that their findings
showed that the AFP did not commit any lapses during the Mamasapano
incident."
Catapang said that his hopes are high that what happened in
the Mamasapano would give way to a more effective and enduring collaboration
during joint operations between the AFP and Philippine National Police.
