Two more towns in Negros Occidental – San Enrique and Toboso
– were declared “peaceful and ready for further development” Monday after they
manifested strong commitment to become instruments of peace and to promote a
culture of non-violence in their respective localities.
In San Enrique, located in southern Negros ,
the declaration and signing of the resolution was led by Mayor Mario Magno with
Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Lina Sanogal, and Col. Noel
Buan, deputy commander of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade.
Over at Toboso in the north, Mayor Richard Jaojoco, and Col.
Jon Aying, commander of the 303rd IB, led the local government and security
sector officials in the signing of the joint declaration.
Earlier this month, Cadiz City ,
Hinigaran and Pontevedra towns were also declared “peaceful and ready for
further development.”
Based on the joint assessment on the security situation of
the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police, the occurrence of
violence, criminality, insurgency and subversion has become negligible and
isolated in the declared local government units thus, an enabling environment
for economic development has been established in the community.
“Peace can be simply defined as security and development
under good governance blessed by the Almighty One,” Aying said.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. had earlier said the third and
fourth districts in the province will also be declared “peaceful and ready for
development” soon.
Marañon said he is expects that the province will also be
declared as such for investments and tourists to come in.
