Military now pursuing IED planters in Basilan

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 24): Military now pursuing IED planters in Basilan

Troopers from Joint Task Group Basilan are now conducting pursuit operations against the lawless elements who planted IED (improvised explosive device) at Block 7, Barangay Mangal, Sumisip town, Basilan, which exploded and wounded a civilian last Feb. 19.

In a statement forwarded Tuesday by Capt. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, the wounded civilian was identified as Markus K. Llagao, 36, married, a rubber tapper, and a resident of Barangay Mangal.

He was wounded after he accidentally hit the IED while tapping rubber at the Maluso Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Development Corporation (MARBEDCO).

Llagao was immediately brought to the nearest detachment of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-11 (MBLT-11) for treatment.

Col. Rolando Bautista, Joint Task Group Basilan commander, said the incident may be attributed to refusal of MARBEDCO to give in to the Abu Sayyaf Group extortion activities.
