With the surrender of three more New People's Army (NPA)
fighters over the weekend, 10th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Eduardo
M. Año on Tuesday urged remaining rebels in Sarangani to return to the fold of
the law so that they can live peacefully with their loved ones.
“We are calling on our deceived brothers who are still with
the NPA to grab the opportunity of living a peaceful life before it’s too late.
The best option for them is to abandon the futile armed struggle and put an end
to the unnecessary loss of lives,” he added.
Last Feb. 21 and 22, NPA fighters identified as Marilou
Intan Dela Cruz, a rebel squad medic; Odoy Maway Malbino and Tata Yata Intan,
24, a rebel squad leader, voluntarily surrendered to troopers of the 73rd
Infantry Battalion in Alabel town, Sarangani.
Malbino also surrendered an M-16 automatic rifle.
Año said the three participated in the Feb. 16 encounter in
Alabel where nine rebels were killed.
He added that the surrender of the three raises the number
of NPA surrenderees to six for the past two weeks.
Año said the surrendered NPA fighters will be enrolled at
the Sarangani Province Comprehensive Localized Integration Program as part of
the effort to reintegrate them into mainstream society.
