On January 26, a day after the bloody skirmishes between combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF), joined in by members of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) last January 25, the Central Committee of the MILF created a Special Investigative Commission (SIC) tasked to conduct an in-depth investigation on the Mamasapano clash that resulted in the death of 18 MILF forces and 44 PNP-SAF members as well as triggering the evacuation of affected civilians.
In a resolution signed by Muhammad Ameen, Secretary of MILF Central Committee and attested by MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, the SIC was directed to come up with a report to be submitted to the Central Committee as soon as possible in accordance with its mandate to gather as much reliable information and interview witnesses to ferret out the truth.
As of this writing, the Commission is yet to submit its report as it is still in the process of gathering data and interviewing individuals who have firsthand information on the incident to be able to come up with accurate and credible results.
