From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 6): ASG suffers 8 casualties in Sulu fresh clash
 
The Abu Sayyaf Group suffered eight casualties while five soldiers were wounded as clash broke out anew as the government troops continue the law enforcement operations in Sulu, a military official disclosed Friday.

Capt. Ma. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, said the clash broke out around 11:50 a.m. Friday at Sitio Kan Islam, Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul, Sulu.

Muyuela said the clash ensued as the Joint Task Group Sulu troops led by Major Ibni Saddama chanced upon the ASG bandits led by Hairulah Asbang and Amlon Abtahi while on law enforcement operation.

Muyuela said the ASG bandits, unable to withstand the soldiers, fled towards the hinterlands.

She said the ground troops received reliable information the ASG bandits suffered eight casualties.

She said the five slightly injured soldiers were extricated from the clash site for medical treatment.
