From ABS-CBN (Feb 6): 9 Abu Sayyaf members killed in Sulu clashes
(UPDATE) -- Nine members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed and 13 soldiers were injured in separate clashes in Patikul, Sulu Friday.
Members of the Joint Task Group Sulu encountered around 100 members of the ASG under Radullan Sihiron, Hairulah Asbang and Amlon Abtahi, while conducting a law enforcement operation in Barangay Buhanginan in Patikul.
The encounter, which lasted for an hour and a half, resulted in eight ASG members killed.
Eleven soldiers from the military side were wounded.
The bodies of the Abu Sayyaf casualties were brought by their comrades to Sitio Kantitap in Barangay Danag in Patikul.
Another clash between military troops and members of the ASG occurred in Patikul Friday afternoon.
A member of the ASG was killed, while three others were wounded. Two government soldiers were also wounded.
