LEGAZPI CITY – Three members of the New People's Army (NPA) have voluntarily surrendered to government troops on Tuesday in Cataingan, Masbate province, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) reported Thursday.
In a report, Lt. Col Malu Calubaquib, PRO5 spokesperson, only identified the surrenderers as Ka Willy, 66; Ka Ludi, 54; and Ka Nonoy, 44; all from Cataingan town.
"These individuals, who were previously affiliated with the NPA under the command of Rogelio Suson, also known as Manong CO, with Platoon 1, Larangan 1, Komite ng Larangan Guerilla -South, Sub Regional Committee 4, Bicol Regional Party Committee (BRPC), operating in the 3rd District of Masbate," she said.
Calubaquib said the surrenderers are now under the custody of the Regional Intelligence Unit-Provincial Intelligence Team-Masbate for proper disposition.
"Series of debriefings for the rebel returnees are being conducted. They shall also be assisted in their reintegration into mainstream society through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP). With this, they shall be provided financial and livelihood assistance, as well as other forms of support from the government," she said.
The PRO5 and the Philippine Army welcomed the former rebels and ensured that their welfare would be safeguarded.
"The unit also urged the other lawless elements to return to the fold of the law and accept the assistance that the government is ready to give them. It also guarantees that opportunities will be made available to them as a form of help as they unfold a new chapter of their lives," Calubaquib said.
