BACOLOD CITY – A top New People's Army (NPA) leader who was arrested in joint military and police operations in Calatrava town, Negros Occidental province on Jan. 7 is facing various criminal cases in at least four trial courts in Negros Island.

Based on records of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), Felix Susas Jr., 45, secretary of the defunct Northern Negros Front, has pending warrants of arrest, served to him while in the custody of Calatrava Municipal Police Station (MPS) over the weekend.


Lt. Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of NOCPPO, told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that after the arrest of Susas, a check of police records showed he has been issued arrest warrants by the courts for criminal cases committed in the areas of northern Negros.

"It could be that he still has warrants of arrest in other places. Once received, we will add that to the service of warrants to him," he added.

Hours after he was apprehended on Jan. 7, the Calatrava MPS served to Susas the warrant of arrest dated Jan. 4, 2023 for the second murder case he is facing before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 57 in San Carlos City under Presiding Judge Arville Delgado.

The first order to arrest him for murder, issued by Delgado on Feb. 18, 2022, was served by the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company on the same day along with the arrest warrant for homicide issued by Presiding Judge Dyna Doll Trocio of RTC Branch 40 in Silay City.

The San Carlos City Police Station served to Susas the warrant of arrest for violations of Section 28 (1), Article 5 of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions, and Section 10 of RA 9372 or The Human Security Act of 2007 also issued by the RTC Branch 57, while the Escalante City Police Station served as well the arrest order for theft from Municipal Trial Court in Cities Presiding Judge Jose Meno Ruiz.

On Jan. 8, the NOCPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit also served to Susas the warrant of arrest for violation of RA 10591 issued on April 22, 2019 by Presiding Judge Mario Trinidad of RTC Branch 64 in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

According to the report of Calatrava CPS, Susas was arrested together with his wife Jalen Carillo Susas, 35, and companion Cherryl Catalogo, 27, after they were found illegally possessing firearms and explosives in the morning of Jan. 7 at Sitio Pinamaktinan of Barangay Cambayobo,

The two women were identified as the NNF's medical staff and education staff, respectively.

The three are facing charges for violation of RA 10591 (unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition) and RA 9516 (illegal possession of explosives), the police report showed.
