Two remote villages in the central part of Negros Occidental declared the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) persona non-grata in separate rites last week.

In Moises Padilla, residents of Barangay Macagahay
announced that the terrorist group is not welcome in their community as they vowed allegiance to the Philippine government in a ceremony held at the village gymnasium on October 26.

During the activity facilitated by the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) and Philippine National Police’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)-6, the village council and the residents signed the oath for peace,
pledged allegiance to the government, and signed the resolution declaring the CPP-NPA persona non-grata.

Macagahay village chief Francis Necesito showed his support to end the insurgency in their community by leading his constituents during the signing and oath-taking rites.

A candle-lighting ceremony and burning of the CPP-NPA flag to symbolize the denouncing of the presence of the communist rebels capped the activity.

In neighboring Isabela town, residents of Barangay Sebucauan took an oath of commitment for continuous support to the government and signed a resolution declaring the CPP-NPA persona non-grata on October 21.

Village officials led by barangay chair Amy Locsin expressed commitment and dedication in partnering with the government forces to attain the mutual goal of ending the insurgency problem.

Lt. Col. Egberto Dacoscos, commander of 62IB, said in a statement late Monday that these activities are part of their initiatives to fulfill the “whole-of-nation” approach to end the local communist armed conflict provided in Executive Order 70 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

He underscored the importance of unity among the stakeholders to end the insurgency in the barangays to manifest the people’s awakening from the deceptive intentions of the CPP-NPA.

“There is no more space for this armed group to take over the community and do their dual tactics of deceiving the people,” Dacoscos added.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
