WESTMINCOM: Troops find arms cache disclosed by ex-NPA rebels in Sibugay

Posted to the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Website (Aug 9, 2019): Troops find arms cache disclosed by ex-NPA rebels in Sibugay

Military troops discovered an arms cache, disclosed by four communist rebels after they surrendered in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay on August 8, 2019.

Soldiers recovered one M14 rifle, one AK-47, one Carbine rifle, and one Caliber .38 Revolver from the arms cache on Thursday.

Said communist rebels, including the NPA amazons’ team leader and medic, yielded to 44th Infantry Battalion troops in Titay.

They yielded two land mines, ammunition, cellular phones, and subversive documents.

“Feeling the government’s sincerity, they devised ways to escape from the rebel group and surrendered to military troops,” said Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., 102nd Infantry Brigade commander.

This year, 31 communist terrorists yielded to 102nd Bde troops.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command, said the military anticipates a surge in the number of communist rebels surrendering to government troops this year.

“This (surge) is a development in our collaborative campaign to end local communist armed conflict in Zamboanga Peninsula. However, we are strengthening our efforts to engage communities and encourage rebels to surrender while military actions are sustained in the area of operations,” he added.
