From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Nov 3): NO FEAR | JTG Ranao assures safety of Evacuees returning to Marawi
KAMPO RANAO, Marawi City (DWDD) – Evacuees have nothing to fear against Maute stragglers in their return to their homes in Marawi City.
This was the assurance given by Armed Forces of the Philippines – Joint Task Group Ranao Deputy Commander Col. Romeo Brawner, after troops successfully neutralized two Maute stragglers that were trying to escape the main battle area.
Among those killed were identified as Abu Talja, the alleged right-hand man of Daesh Emir and Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon.
According to Col Brawner, Abu Talja and an unknown companion were in the act of evading soldiers conducting clearing operations when they were neutralized Wedensday at around 8:40 PM.
Brawner added that Talja could possibly be serving as the new leader of the remaining 20 Maute stragglers in the area, as previously divulged by the recently captured Indonesian terrorist Muhammad Syahputra.
Brawner explained that the main battle area remains critical and is off-limits to civilians due to the continuous clearing operations the military is conducting to neutralize the remaining terrorist hidding in the ruins and sewage systems. Brawner believes that the Maute group has lost most of its forces and their capability to launch full scale terroristic attacks. AES
