MALACANANG yesterday announced the appointment of former Gabriela partylist Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan as undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), along with two retired alumni of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
President Duterte on September 13 signed the appointments papers of Ilagan as DSWD undersecretary, retired police Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino as new director general of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and retired Maj. Gen. Romeo Gan as deputy administrator of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
Ilagan, who was born and raised in Davao, is an alumnus of the Ateneo de Davao College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, and of the University of the Philippines Manila where she earned her master’s degree in Public Administration.

She is a founding member of Gabriela and was one of the Gabriela partylist representatives during the 14th Congress.
After her term in 2016, she was initially designated by Duterte to be part of the government panel negotiating with the communist rebels. Talks with the communist group, however, had been suspended.

He also served as a member of the Presidential Security Group during the terms of Presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos.
