From InterAksyon (Oct 28): WATCH | 'I'll blow you to pieces,' Duterte tells pirates, sets visit to Malaysia to tackle piracy
Band of pirates in South China Sea.
President Rodrigo Duterte has announced that he will be visiting Malaysia next, as he arrived back in the Philippines on Thursday night from a visit to Japan.
This new trip would allow him to "complete the tour", he said in a press conference. So far, he had visited Laos, Indonesia, and China, as well.
"Those are the only countries that would really matter to me," the President said.
He said he needed to talk to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, together with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, about piracy in their shared waters.
The Malacca Strait, in particular, is threatened by such criminals.
A National Geographic article describes the body of water thus: "Pirates haunt it. Sailors fear it. Global trade depends on it."
Duterte said that he and the two other leaders had to do something about it, because "every now and then it puts to shame everybody."
His solution?
"Walang sisihan dito ha, because ang propos(al) ko talaga ganun din [No fingerpointing here, please, because my proposal is really like that], it's always the ultimate. Why would I waste (time) chasing you? I'll just blow you to pieces," he said.
Back in September, speaking to representatives of the Filipino community in Indonesia, the President also tackled the topic of piracy.
On pirates who take sailors hostage, he said, "Feed them to the sharks. It would make them fat. Good for sashimi also."
