The Department of National Defense (DND) awarded medals on
Wednesday to the 16 soldiers, including a junior officer, who were wounded in
the line of duty for gallantry in action.
The awardee-soldiers were among those who were wounded in
the one-and-a-half-hour firefight on Tuesday afternoon in Sitio Bud Duwa Bayho,
Barangay Pansul, Patikul, Sulu.
Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom)
spokesman, disclosed that 15 of the 16 were admitted at Camp Navarro General
Hospital (CNGH) while the remaining one, at a private hospital in this city.
Outgoing DND Secretary Voltaire Gazmin personally pinned the
Wounded Personnel Medals (WPM) on the 15 wounded soldiers when the defense
chief visited them at Camp Navarro General Hospital (CNGH).
The awardees admitted at CNGH are as follows: 2Lt. Jeron
Nablo; SSgt. Joel Balasa; Sgt. Reynaldo Flores; PFC Jetter Atay; PFC Jessie
Braterna; PFC Gilbert Camasis; PFC Rio Cablasa; PFC Jay Nomer Delaqueña; PFC
Edentorio Dolorosa; PFC Jeremias Galvi; PFC Ramonito Ilat; PFC John Ray Mintac;
PFC Joel Nuena; PFC Jayson Rendon; and, PFC Jessie Sarang. They belong to the
Army’s 32ndn Infantry Battalion.
Tan did not release the identity of the wounded soldier
admitted at the private hospital.
The troops were on combat operation when they clashed with
around 200 ASG brigands on Tuesday afternoon in Sitio Bud Duwa Bayho, Barangay
Pansul, Patiul, Sulu.
The troops were in search of the hostages, including
foreigners, that are still being held captives by the ASG brigands in Sulu.
Meanwhile, Tan said Gazmin also visited the headquarters of
the Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade in Camp Luis Biel III in Isabela City ,
Basilan.
Gazmin urged the troops to carry on and do their jobs with
utmost commitment for the future of the next generation.
He thanked the troops for their support during his stint as
DND secretary.
