A soldier was killed while another one was wounded during
encounters with suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Compostela Valley
and Davao City Monday.
The first incident happened around 7:30 a.m. when troops
from Charlie Company, 60th Infantry Battalion while checking reports of
heavily-armed men in the boundaries of Sitio Cebule and Sitio Taduk, both of
Barangay Kapatagan, Laak encountered.
Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs
office chief, said no losses were incurred in the first clash.
Also recovered were an M-16 automatic rifle, an improvised
explosive device, blasting cups and a 25-meter electric wire.
In the second incident which took place 10:30 a.m. when
troops from the 84th Infantry Battalion were ambushed by members of the NPA's
Guerilla Front 54 at Sitio Colorado , Barangay
Sibulan, Toril District, Davao
City .
Government troops were aboard four motorcycles when fired
upon by the rebels, killing one trooper and wounding another soldier in the
right foot.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
