The Compostela Valley-based 10th Infantry Division on Friday
paid homage to its soldiers killed and wounded during operations to neutralize
the New People's Army (NPA) last Dec. 11 and 12.
Ceremonies honoring fallen and wounded troops was headed by
unit commander Major Gen. Rafael Valencia at Naval Station Felix Apolinario in
Panacan, Davao City .
This includes departure honors for Pfc. Johnhill Victor
Alarcon, who was killed in action in the above-mentioned operations, and
airlifted to Iloilo
shortly.
After this sad duty, Valencia then visited four wounded
soldiers, also wounded in the same operation, at Camp Panacan Station Hospital
and distributed gift packs to the latter.
It can be recalled that on Dec. 11 and 12, the troops of
69th Infantry Battalion engaged in a series of armed engagements in Barangay
Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao
City .
The first incident happened when a platoon of the 69th
Infantry Battalion got hit by a rebel-detonated landmine those shrapnel killed
Alarcon and seriously wounded another trooper.
It was followed by another encounter when reinforcing
soldiers of 69th engaged the retreating NPAs that resulted in the wounding of
three more troopers.
