Protesters urged not to do actions that can embarrassed country

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 18): Protesters urged not to do actions that can embarrassed country

While stressing that maximum tolerance policy will be observed against rallyists marching against the four-day Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) Leaders Summit in Metro Manila, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ricardo Marquez urged protesters to avoid doing actions which can embarrassed the government and the visiting delegations.

He made this statement while visiting police officers deployed in Baclaran, Paranaque and other parts of Southern Metro Manila where bulk of APEC events and venues are located.

As of this posting, militant groups are conducting protest actions near the US Embassy in Roxas Boulevard and Mendiola, Manila; and Buendia, Makati.

And while the PNP is obligated to observe the maximum tolerance policy against protesters, Marquez said the police was also tasked to ensure that nothing potentially embarrassing or violent would mar the proceedings.

Any untoward incidents would greatly impact the country's reputation, he added.

  1. An exercise in futility. Most of the protests are led by Communist Party of the Philippine front organizations. The whole point of the commie demonstrations is to discredit the Philippine government and especially the Aquino administration. The APEC meeting gives these groups an international stage on which to carryout their nonsense.
