To ensure nothing untoward will mar the upcoming
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Metro Manila, the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it is boosting up its coordination
with other government agencies tasked to secure the week-long event.
This was disclosed by Joint Task Force-National Capital
Region (JTF-NCR) deputy chief Col. Vic Tomas in a press briefing Tuesday.
"We are now beefing up our coordination with all
(involved) government agencies, so the key here is coordination, commitment,
cooperation, collaboration, competency, and capacity building. Aside from this,
competency levelling and continuity and resiliency and connetivity of all
involved agencies is (being tuned)," he added.
Tomas said these efforts are needed to ensure that the
upcoming APEC meeting will be "safe, secure and sound."
The goal of forces securing the week-long APEC event is
"a zero-risk, incident free conduct" of the activities.
The APEC Leaders' Meeting is scheduled on Nov. 17 to 20.
Twenty-one heads of economies are expected to attend.
Tomas said the level of preparedness concerning security has
been sufficient as APEC started early this year with meetings being held in Iloilo , Bacolod , Boracay, Cebu , Clark Field and Pampanga and thus giving them ample
time to make their preparations.
