Some of the Philippines top business executives traveled to the stronghold of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Crossing Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, on Monday , an expression of support to the Mindanao process.

Mohagher Iqbal, chief MILF negotiator in the peace talks with the Government of the Philippines (GPH), told the Manila Bulletin Wednesday the “top Philippine business executives have expressed support for the peace process.”

“They are willing to invest (in the Bangsamoro) if the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is passed,” said Iqbal in telephone interview.

He said the World Bank arranged the visit and meeting of the business executives with MILF Chairman Al-Haji Murad Ebrahim and members of the group’s Central Committee, its highest policy-making body.

“We welcomed and the thanked the World Bank and the high-ranking businesse executives for the visit,” said Iqbal.

The meeting occurred on September 14 at the MILF’s Peace Process Secretariat in Camp Darapanan, Crossing Simuay, an hour or so from Cotabato City by car.
