(Updated 5:45 a.m. July 24) An explosion occurred late Thursday evening in Zamboanga City along the San Jose Road, where a massage parlor and flower shops are located, city mayor Beng Climaco said via social media. Initially, one person died and eight others were injured, GMA News' Peewee Bacuño reported.
The number of wounded later rose to nine, GMA News' Unang Balita reported Friday morning.

The explosion happened shortly after ten o'clock in the evening Thursday.
Mayor Climaco said city caretaker and vice mayor Cesar Iturralde and Zamboanga City police chief Angelito Casimiro “are on the scene to facilitate and coordinate efforts in attending to the victims, as well as in investigating the incident.”
