Troopers from the 14th Special Forces Company have recovered
an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly laid by the Abu Sayyaf Group
(ASG) bandits near the Maluso Water District (MAWAD) in Maluso town, Basilan
Wednesday.
The IED was found near the MAWAD main pipeline.
Lt. Col. Eliglen Villaflor, 4th Special Forces Battalion
commander, said the ASG improvised explosive was made from a mortar round and
aimed at inflicting casualties to MAWAD maintenance teams checking or repairing
the vital pipeline.
"The said IED is made from a mortar round capable of
inflicting huge damage on the pipeline or any person within close
proximity," he added.
Villaflor added that the 4th Special Forces Battalion have
been conducting security patrols in the MAWAD area in a bid to prevent a repeat
of the May 28 incident where the ASGs managed to cut the pipeline and disrupt
the water service in the locality.
