  1. The Marxist-Leninist Party of the Philippines (MLPP) was reportedly formed in 1998 after a number of Central Luzon Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) cadre had a falling out with the Party leadership over ideological issues. MLPP cadre came mainly from the Manila Provisional Regional Party Committee, the National Trade Union Bureau, and the National Peasant Secretariat.

The Rebolusyunaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB- Revolutionary People's Army) is the armed wing of the MLPP while the Kilusang para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KPD-Movement for Nationalism and Democracy) functions as the above ground legal umbrella political front organization of the Party.

The RHB was reportedly decimated by encounters with both the Philippine military and the military wing of the CPP, the New People's Army (NPA). The RHB has reportedly been forced to rely on criminal activities such as robbery and auto theft in order to survive.

Over the past ten years or so military/police encounters with the RHB have been rare.
