With the commissioning of the "BRP Ramon Alcaraz" (PF-16) on Friday morning, the Philippine Navy (PN) said that it has more than doubled its patrol and monitoring capabilities on the country's vast maritime waters.
PN flag officer-in-charge Vice Admiral Jose Luis Alano, in an interview, said the activation of the country's latest Hamilton-class cutter effectively boosted the Navy's capabilities to monitor and protect the country's waters against internal threats and poachers.
The commissioning ceremonies were done at Pier 15 of the
Alano said he expects such capabilities to be further improved once the five AgustaWestland AW-109 "Power" helicopters joined the fleet.
Three of the helicopters will be delivered by December and the remaining two will be operational and in the Philippine service by next year.
Alano said that the aircraft will more than double the frigates' maritime domain awareness capability.
