From the Mindanao Examiner (Jul 19): NPA rebels assault military post in Southern Philippines

Communist rebels assaulted a military post in the southern Philippine province of Agusan del Sur and killing a pro-government militia, officials said.

The New People’s Army, which is fighting for a separate state, attacked the post in the town of Sibagat and sparking a fierce firefight in the village of Banag-banag.

There was no immediate statement from the NPA about the raid, but the military insisted that up to 6 rebels may have been killed in the clash, citing intelligence reports.
