From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 16): Four troopers wounded in landmine blast in Isabela

Four soldiers from the 5th Infantry Division's 86 Infantry Battalion were wounded after a New People's Army (NPA) detonated a landmine in Barangay Ibujan, San Mariano, Isabela during an encounter with the rebels Friday morning.

Col. Loreto C. Magundayao, Jr., 5th Infantry Division spokesperson, said that their operatives were conducting routine security patrols in the area in preparation for the coming May mid-term elections and to prevent the NPAs from conducting extortion activities when they encountered the rebel group around 1 a.m.

He added that the NPAs then detonated a landmine and opened fire on their men for 30 minutes before making their escape after sustaining an undetermined number of casualtiess in the return fire. Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
