From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 4): AFP chief to recommend Christmas
ceasefire
Armed Forces of the Philippines chief-of-staff Gen. Jessie Dellosa has said he
is recommending to higher authorities a "suspension of military offensive"
(SOMO) so that the soldiers can have some time with their families during the
coming Yuletide season.
"But I still would have to refer the matter to Department of National Defense
Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin and President Benigno S. Aquino III," he stressed.
Dellosa said that the granting of the SOMO would come from the Chief
Executive.
He added that the rebels can surrender to the authorities during lull in the
fighting and hopefully start new lives anew.
He declined to comment on how long the ceasefire will last but stressed that
it might be as long as the previous year's.
Last year's SOMO started Dec. 16, 2011 and ended Jan. 2, 2012.
