Misuari asked us to block peace deal - BIFM

From the Philippine Star (Oct 25): Misuari asked us to block peace deal - BIFM

The founder of the Moro National Liberation Front Nur Misuari had asked the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement to block the October 15 signing of the framework peace deal between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, BIFM spokesman Abu Misry Mama said. Misuari has been critical of the framework deal, and has warned that the agreement is “a recipe for war," as the pact is perceived to nullify the MNLF's September 2, 1996 peace deal with the national government. Mama said Misuari called his mobile phone before the signing of the agreement in Malacañang and asked him to convince the BIFM leadership "to do everything" to stop the crafting of the deal. "He (Misuari) called me and asked me to relay to the BIFM leadership that we have to do everything to stop the signing of the framework agreement before its October 15 signing in Malacañang,” Mama said. Mama said he immediately told Misuari that BIFM would be unable to prevent the signing of the framework agreement. "I told him we’ve got nothing to do with it and that it is something only between the government and the MILF,” Mama said. Mama said he also told Misuari that the BIFM is unaffected by the framework agreement as the group is unconvinced that the agreement is a solution to the "Mindanao Moro problem.” “I declined his request right away,” Mama said. “We are convinced that the framework agreement is not the solution to the Moro problem....”
