Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – December 5, 2021

Army troops seized war materials of the communist terrorist group following an encounter in Zamboanga del Norte on December 3, 2021. Based on the report, troops of the 44th Infantry Battalion engaged with more or less ten armed men believed to be remnants of the defunct Guerilla Front Feliciano-Alpha and Main Regional Guerilla Unit at Sitio Dipane, Barangay Bato, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte at about 4:40 p.m., December 3.

According to Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command, the exchange of fires lasted for 20 minutes after which the enemies scampered in different directions. “While scouring the clash site, troops recovered one M16 assault rifle, assorted magazines, medical supplies, propaganda materials, and personal belongings of the enemy,” the WestMinCom Commander said.

Troops established blockades on possible enemy withdrawal routes to neutralize the fleeing militants.

Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, Commander of 102nd Infantry Brigade, revealed that on the morning of December 3, an armed confrontation also transpired in Barangay Linabo, Polanco, same province. The 30-minute firefight transpired between the troops 97th and 42nd Infantry Battalions and the members of Guerilla Front BBC. Troops continue to pursue the fleeing enemies.

“Our units on the ground are relentlessly pursuing the remaining members of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) who keep on evading our forces these past few months,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas said. “Nevertheless, we continue to encourage the CTG remnants to abandon their armed struggle, lay down their arms, and avail of the benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP)”.

Currently, there are only two remaining active guerilla fronts of the WMRPC in Zamboanga Peninsula and Misamis Occidental.

“The snowball of surrender has significantly weakened the communist terrorist group in our area of operation,” said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Commander of Joint Task Force ZamPeLan.

Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. commended the troops of Joint Task Force ZamPeLan for the successful operations that resulted in numerous successes. “Let us continue to employ more pressure so that the remaining members of the terror group will be forced to give up their armed struggle,” the commander said.

The military has recorded a total of five encounters with the CTG in Zamboanga Peninsula and Misamis Occidental last November.
