WESTMINCOM: Five local terrorist group members were killed in their most recent encounter with the government forces

While conducting security operations, troops of the 44th Infantry Battalion and the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office clashed with more or less 10 local terrorists in Sitio Limuno, Barangay Roxas, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay Province in the early morning of September 9, 2020.

A fierce firefight ensued which lasted for an hour.

"We incurred two battle casualties who were immediately extricated from the area and are now in stable condition," said Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander.

“We also rescued a wounded individual who is suspected to be a member of the LTG,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas added.

The intermittent firefight continued which lasted for five hours.

While conducting clearing operations, troops recovered the enemy cadavers; assorted IED components; three M16A1 and one M14 rifles (already reported earlier); one Carbine, 5.56mm R4A3; one upper receiver of M16; 10 magazines of M14; 150 rounds cartridge, Cal. 7.62mm Ball; five magazines of M16; five bandoleers; five backpacks; three solar panels; two motorcycles; and one tricycle.

"I commend the troops of the 44IB for your numerous accomplishments. Carry on your good work for the people of Zamboanga Peninsula," said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, JTF ZamPeLan Commander.

As per initial investigation conducted by the military and the SOCO team, two of the five slain enemies were identified as Ustadz Bulangis and Ilim Aguilon.

“The recovered motorcycles and IED components could have been used to create havoc, but, our gallant soldiers already thwarted their bomb plots,” said Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., WestMinCom Commander.

"The armed forces stand firm to its commitment to serve and protect the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic," Maj. Gen. Vinluan added.

"We attribute our significant accomplishments to all our partners and stakeholders who actively support in our campaigns against terrorism and radicalism in the region," he concluded.

Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
